To Fry or Not to Fry….Good Question

As far as the health conscious mind goes….there is no question.

For the rest of us though…yes…it is a good question.

Deep frying when done properly, is not as bad as some people think it is. The heat of the oil makes a vapor barrier that seals in moisture, keeps oil out, and for deep fried vegetables, seals in vitamins and minerals.

If the oil is not properly heated, when the food to be fried is added, this makes for uneven cooking. Uneven cooking makes an improper moisture barrier and gives time to allow the food to absorb frying oil. That is a bad thing.

I mean, when you go to the fair, you have a funnel cake or a corn dog, don’t you. Fried food is fun!

Deep fried foods are comforting. Comfort eases tensions. In this day and age, who does not need a little bit of comfort every so often?

And then there is Thanksgiving. If you have not experienced deep fried turkey cooked in a conventional turkey fryer or a safer Cajun Fryer, well you don’t know what you are missing. It must be experienced at least once in a life time. And if it is the only deep fried food that you eat all year, well then what does that hurt? Thanksgiving is all about indulgence anyway, isn’t it?

So eat, drink and be merry. Have some fried food once in a while. Relax! Be comfortable! Eat something deep fried!
